Finding a job in Nigeria takes a lot and requires you to have access to the right information, opportunity and skills. All of these take focus. You need to be proactive in finding jobs because you are competing with thousands and millions of other qualified people.
When it comes to finding a job, you need to know where to search, by this I mean the right places.
So I want to share some ideas about where to search, from experience.
- Job boards: Yeah, a lot of the time job boards work. Job boards are basically platforms that display jobs posted by employers seeking new employees.
This used to be offline many years ago but now you have a lot of job boards running online as websites. Some are owned by recruiting firms or quasi-recruiting firms while others aren’t recruiting firms. They just run as a platform where employers seeking new employees come to post jobs that run as search engines attracting candidates to apply for the jobs.
Some popular places to find job opportunities include Jobberman, Hotnigerianjobs, Jobgurus
There are other many job boards all over the internet in Nigeria today, I just identified three I have used as a recruiter.
2. WHATSAPP & TELEGRAM: Another place to find jobs in Nigeria is Online Groups. Yes, there are millions of Nigerians using WhatsApp and creating both personal and professional groups for various purposes.
Today, a lot of recruiters run shared job posting platforms that run on WhatsApp or Telegram groups. So within those groups you have different recruiters sharing new and updated job opportunities available within their network.

3. Industry Association – Finally, this is a premium for me. The best place to find a job is within the network of people who have that job you are looking for or who are doing similar jobs.
If you want to get into the HR Profession for example, the best and fastest place to find a job in HR is the Association of HR Professionals. Similar to the second point made above, most of these Industry groups and associations now run online versions like WhatsApp and Telegram Groups.
Beyond jobs, they also share ideas, learnings, information and opportunities within the industry or career path. Because this is more industry related, it may require some more work to get into the groups but searching is where it begins. So do the work of searching. Finding yourself within those groups and association of people is like a fish getting into water. That’s where your growth lies. Choose carefully, but be very proactive in finding your next job.
