How did you end up studying the course you studied or are currently studying?
In Nigeria, there are many stories and factors behind what we study and what we end up doing after spending years and good amount of money in the university or polytechnic.
Let’s move away from what you studied or are currently studying to more important and critical question: Your Career!
If you add 40 years to your age now, and maybe you get to live and work about 40 hours a week, 50 weeks a year, that may amount to about 80,000 hours work life for you.
If you believe that what makes up your life is your time, then choosing a career is one of the most important decisions to make.
Because of my work, i speak to students almost on a weekly basis, and also speak to a lot of industry professionals (with my podcast). Most people I have spoken with didn’t take this decision serious early enough. Some of them just asked a friend or family member. Most of them just try to figure it out ‘anyhow’.
But they all wished they had some form of guidance to choosing a career.
I have thought about this so many times, I have even interviewed some professionals on my podcast on How to start a Career.
Let me offer you one way – Start with this Question:
If you have 80,000 hours left of your life, what PROBLEMS would you spend those hours solving?
That is one good way to think about a career path.
What would yours be?
