My Life is a Statement

Dear Leader,

I am grateful for the privilege to celebrate another birthday.

I trust this letter meets you in pursuit of leadership.

If you watch closely, You must have observed a trend amongst celebrities, politicians and entertainers or influencers to make public statements about almost any issue in the country and around the world. It has now fastly become part of our culture.

Today, you expect every public leader you know to make public statements about their stands on every issue. When tragedy occurs, citizens expect or even stylishly force or push their high profile persons to make statements.

We mistake statements for solutions.

As a leader, I’d like to remind you that statements don’t actually do anything other than accentuate the divide that exists between parties, groups, ethnic lines, and people. In a world where we can easily make a post on X (formerly Twitter) and other social media platforms, Lip service is no substitute for doing the right thing. Our culture gives people credit as though saying something accomplishes anything.

It is totally possible for you to say you are for justice yet actually oppress people at the same time. You can say you stand for integrity while lying and stealing.

You can say anything but WHAT YOU DO shows WHO YOU REALLY ARE.

When next you see something you believe to be wrong, don’t join the herds to just make a statement. DO THE RIGHT THING, and keep doing the right thing.

Eventually, anyone who wants to know what you believe or value will realise that all along your life is your statement.

My life is a statement for what I believe and what I value.

Make your life your statement because it actually is. Make it a good statement.

I’m rooting for you,
The Great Owete
